Laminates Go Next Level with Richard Woods

Here's a visual direction I don't mind treading on.

Logo #14, The New Art Gallery, Walsall, UK 2005

The artist is Richard Woods, currently residing in London. The work subverts expectations to a maximal level.

An unexpected inversion can invoke surprise and alarm.

New Build, New College Oxford 2005

Challenging established notions, an aged structure is transformed.

It's the high/low dichotomy, and Woods' vision takes it to new heights.

Frequent showings suggest Woods' has garnered considerable acclaim.

Indeed, Woods' presence in the UK is flush with exhibitions.

More on this superlative graphical style is available in the NY Times T Magazine blog.

A book on Woods' work has also been issued.

A welcome and invigorating perspective. Kudos to Richard Woods.

Kiosk store in Soho

Has anybody visited the shop called Kiosk in Soho, NY?

They feature products from a particular region of the world.
Periodically, they change it to another.
In the past, they've featured collections from Mexico, Japan, the US, and others.
The store's current focus is Portugal.

Portuguese toy plane.

Portuguese beer glass.

Portuguese toothpaste.

And so on.

Bravo on executing a first rate concept, Kiosk!

Jogging in 2010

Have you heard of Steve Prefontaine?

His time is 35 years past, but he was credited as a popularizing force behind the jogging resurgence of the early '70s. You can read about him yourself here.

What I found interesting,

His death date is my birth date (May 30). A bit macabre.
He was a world-class runner and remains an icon to sneaker corporations. Here's a Nike event from a while back that draws from this legacy.
He died at the age of 25. Runners tend to mature in the sport later in life, often in their 30s or 40s, meaning he could have been a contender!

Thanks to Steve Prefontaine for promoting running.
